The Fight Is Never Over
By Noelle Delacruz
D
eja vu, again
of hate and lies and harm
Aren’t words enough
to love my neighbor
Or must actions match
to submit, to rebel
to look beyond sight
and be on the right side of history
Let us embrace the roots we’ve come from
And stand on the shoulders of our elders
The roots we grow from
The roots we rise from
Honor the tears spilled
And voices raised high
And arms linked together
To stand against the darkness of the day
It is unending
But it will end
And all things will be healed and made new
Let us lead each other out
of the darkness
Where our bodies ache
And our minds go numb
When deep calls to deep
And we are healed in community
To light, wholeness, and joy
Let us love our neighbors as ourselves

Noelle Delacruz currently serves as a spiritual director in Southern California, and loves the privilege of walking alongside others on their journey of encountering God’s redeeming love. Through embracing her cultural identity as a Filipina American, a passion grew to cultivate spaces where all belong and celebrate the fullness of who God has created each of us to be- including our cultural heritage. From years of working with global/international students, it is her commitment to continually learn and share the gifts of the global church, so followers of Christ can better reflect the image and love of God to the world.
