Have You Eaten Yet?

By Rebecca Catoe

H

ave you eaten yet?

Communal care and concern

Soft eyes tenderly peering into souls

Checking in…is everyone okay?

Have you eaten yet?

Standing for hours over the warmth of the stove

Rhythmically stirring the pot—a melody of love—

Blending ingredients into a sweet blessing

Have you eaten yet?

Sharing tenderness through sharing food

Sharing memories of those who came before

Scrumptious treasure passed down to us

Have you eaten yet?

Warm rice

A plate of dumplings

A bowl of pho

Have you eaten yet?

A warm hug in a bowl

Bringing healing with each bite

A reminder you’re not alone

Have you eaten yet?

A picture of your heavenly father

Who holds an abundance of care

The one who multiplies our meager crumbs

Have you eaten yet?

He gently whispers to your heart,

Do you need to be filled?

Words full of tender care

Have you eaten yet?

God drawing you in so you can be whole

A deep desire to wrap you in his arms

To meet your needs

Have you eaten yet?

Filling you with the feast of his love

For he is the living water

The well that won’t run dry
